Jody Stecher is a bluegrass and traditional American music musician known for his work on mandolin, banjo, guitar, and fiddle. Born in Brooklyn in 1946, he moved to the Bay Area in 1964 and became part of the local folk and bluegrass community.
That summer, Stecher joined Jerry Garcia and Eric Thompson in the Asphalt Mountain Jungle Boys, an acoustic trio that performed several shows around the Palo Alto area. His time with the group was brief, as he returned to New York later that year to attend college.
Stecher went on to a long career in bluegrass and traditional music, recording and performing with numerous prominent musicians and developing a particularly notable partnership with Kate Brislin.
